I would like to see a new article in the magazine Java Current Clues. You can download the article for free. Agile leadership is on everyone’s lips and according to modern management literature it should be the “best practice of leadership”. While searching in internet blogs, magazines or specialist books, more and more tips and hints can be found on how a manager can lead in an agile manner. It is noticeable that these tips have often been put together by coaches, researchers and experts. But how can a manager implement and learn this type of leadership in everyday life? It is important to follow certain behaviors and values that are associated with agile leadership. In my current research, I took the most frequently mentioned values and presented them to 66 executives in an online survey (Lindner 2019). I collected the data together with Tobias Greff from the AWS Institute.…
The pressure on results increases in the short term, the pressure of expectations grows in the long term. The following scenario sounds familiar to you: On the one hand, managers and customers demand quick decisions and immediate success without much consideration for the day after tomorrow and, on the other hand, the company should be made fit for the future. Issues such as sustainability, compliance and new technologies should find their way into the company proactively and at an early stage. What are the reasons: Political instability, new trends, new technologies, competitors and a still unknown Generation Z make long-term planning almost impossible. Even employees seem to have the motto when changing employers: “After three years you can, after five years you have to!” to be taken very seriously. Often the reasons mentioned force managers to opt for short-term success, as this is foreseeable and measurable. But how can you…
You have been writing your thesis for some time and now you are slowly beginning to despair. Then you have put the topic too far or the supervisor criticizes you all the time and you just don’t know what to do? I would like to give you two tips on this. Tip 1: take a little distance! Most of the time you are in tunnel vision yourself and can no longer think clearly. You’re stuck and can’t really come up with a meaningful idea. My tip would be to take a break for 1-2 days and go for a drink with friends. Then talk to your supervisor in peace and watch the work from a distance. Tip 2: less is more! I often notice that the students keep the subject far too ready and complex. Interviews should be paired with a survey, which lead to an ultimate framework. This framework…
The culture of a team is crucial for the success and efficiency in the organization. In the course of restructuring a department, I did workshops with over 90 employees and 8 teams to find your own vision and values. I would like to introduce this here and offer the slides for download. Tip: Download the slides for the workshop What is team culture? I understand team culture as the Processes,Habits,Traditions, knowledge andexperience a group of individuals. What are the types of team culture? I believe that there are different teams in the company and that there are also good sides to them. On the one hand, there are teams that have a high level of orientation towards each other and who actually don’t care what work you do. They just have fun together. This is a great thing, especially for tasks that are not so exciting! On the other hand, there…
You have been employed for some time now and your boss thinks your job is good? You are punctual, reliable and are often praised as a “good” or “very good” employee? But you have not been promoted for years and others are always preferred? The requirements for employees and managers differ significantly. A good employee is by no means a good manager. So if you want to be promoted, you must first make an advance payment: From tomorrow onwards, stop acting like an employee but be a manager. So move away from the mindset of the employee! Reading tip: Become a manager The mindset of employees I am now involved in the selection and coaching of managers and pay close attention to the manager’s mindset. As a manager you are not hired directly. The majority have worked as employees in day-to-day business over the past few years. The consequence is…
I am happy to announce that I am currently in the process of writing a new book for Springer Verlag with Markus Wenzel and Paul Niebler. We plan with Springer that it will appear in February 2020. the title is: The way to the cloud – a guide for entrepreneurs and decision-makers The use of cloud technologies is seen by many experts as one of the TOP 5 IT trends and it is now more than modern IT infrastructures, data and applications to outsource the local environment to a cloud. The Practical examples are differentiated between IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service, PaaS – Platform as a Service and SaaS – Software as a Service. Conclusion of the essentials are Recommendations for action for the use of the cloud,…
“You are a very good employee and very valuable to the company. However, you will need to be with the company for a few more years to be promoted. We will then discuss this in the next annual meeting. ” … said the boss – and the requested promotion or salary increase was a long time coming. In the following I would like to give some tips on how to put pressure on managers to act. Consequences of lack of action by managers The missing raise is according to a survey of 1000 employees the most common reason (34 percent) to quit. According to the study, only one in five respondents received an increase and it is hardly any different for promotions. Only 16 percent were promoted internally before they were given notice. The consequence of a lack of action by executives is numerous layoffs and thus a loss of…
Are you starting your thesis soon and are you looking for a topic right now? Are you also currently planning to develop a framework similar to the Nobel Prize and to agilize the whole of Germany or to re-prove major theories? That’s great, but also a lot of effort. You are a young researcher! Start with small steps! You always have to keep in mind that this is your first (bachelor thesis) or second (master thesis) real research work. If I used a research method in my doctorate, I usually first attended a 3-day seminar and learned it properly. So you first have to learn a lot in the empirical and research theory basics. Ask yourself the following questions: What is a structured literature analysis according to Mayring? How does this differ from Webster and Watson? How do I perform a correlation analysis and what is the difference to regression analysis? How can…

Through group discussions with managers from medium-sized IT companies, this article focuses on the question of whether agility is a prerequisite or a consequence of targeted digitization. This article is aimed at decision-makers from medium-sized IT companies who want to increase the level of agility in the company in the context of increasing digitalization. When it comes to cloud computing, there are many options to choose from. The most common are AWS and AZURE. Here you can find out exactly how these two models are structured and what added value they offer you. What is cloud computing? Before this article goes into the two different forms of cloud computing, AWS and Azure, it should first be clarified what the generic term is all about. Cloud computing describes the relocation of information and applications to a cloud. These are made available dynamically and on demand together with the required IT resources. This provision takes place in a network such as the Internet. As a result, cloud computing offers the advantage that local installations are superfluous for the user. Instead, the user can use the service via interfaces, protocols or a web browser. This gives him a much more flexible way of working and access from…
