Lately, many professional executives and consultants have been calling me because of my blog articles, which are often close to termination. I hear sentences like: “I have high goals but I am not allowed to move anything or decide anything” or simply “I am frustrated and demotivated.” According to studies, these positions have the highest frustration factor (see Medical journal ) but it is also a fact that each of us wants to go further. There are two ways to do this: a) You run this Flagship project in the companyb) You master a professional leadership 2-5 years. What is professional leadership? ” The management of employees without disciplinary authority differs from a management task with a disciplinary management function only in terms of labor law issues .” (Source: Heap ). Tasks are often the planning / overview as well as the conflict management and task creation to ensure without…
Virtual teams have long since become an integral part of the corporate organization in many organizations. Mobile working and home office are often the basis for teams to work together efficiently even without physical proximity. But which other tools can positively influence the performance and quality of work of virtual teams? What does it take so that companies can also benefit from cross-border and cross-national teams? Benefits of virtual teams Virtual teams do not only have many advantages for companies , but also for their employees. While companies can often fall back on a much larger range of experts, also from the international area, by eliminating location-based workplaces, you are simultaneously promoting the reduction of costs and time intervals and increasing customer benefits in your workforce. This is achieved by teams holding online meetings instead of traditional meetings and working together on projects, orders and processes in digital space in…
For some time now I have been working completely virtually with a team in Berlin and customers all over Germany. Some of my blog readers have already asked for tips on working in a virtual team. After that there is also a Blog parade at Bugasi I would like to share my tips with a focus on our software tools below. Organization of the team In the first step I would like to say something about our team. We are at three locations and have divided our four customers into the team. In addition, it was important to us that each customer has their own dedicated contact person and that this person is represented by various other employees. In general communication, these were mostly used for mails, for example in cc. In particular, the distribution of roles and tasks is very important to us in the team. Software tools for…
Many students and professionals dream of a vertical leadership career. Even when studying or training, the vertical career was often preferred to the horizontal career and many dreamed of one day leading their own employees as a team or department manager. But the way there is difficult. Because, on the one hand, leadership is increasingly being dissolved in the course of agile methods, so that teams make decisions themselves and Scrum Masters and Product Owners tend to support them. So there are fewer real disciplinary leadership roles than there were a few years ago. On the other hand, these few spots are often still over Vitamin B awarded or it is often assessment centers (mainly in large companies) necessary, which take a lot of time. Of course, some factors such as vitamin B, skill, luck, and much more are necessary for a leadership role. You must also mature into a…
For less than 8 months I have been responsible for a small team now consisting of 9 people who work completely virtually at 3 locations for 4 customers who couldn’t be more different. The team can decide for themselves when and how they can work from home and at which of the three locations they want to work. Although each team member lives at one of the three locations, people often commute between the locations. However, our customers are not represented at the locations, which is not important as we work for them remotely. While two customers work more traditionally according to ITIL, the others are based on the DevOps method. For this team to be successful, a new type of leadership and collaboration is important. In addition to the technical requirements such as VPN and software tools such as Jira and video conferencing, collaboration on a human level was…
“The digital transformation is changing business models and processes and is therefore calling into question traditional management approaches. Digitization is not just about using new technologies. Established business models and management approaches have to be fundamentally changed. What does a digital leader have to do to master one of the greatest challenges for companies, digitization?”so TimeTac Time recording in the call for a blog parade in which I would like to participate. In the run-up to this article I would like to mention that I am currently working with Tobias Greff on the study ” Digital leadership in SMEs – a view from the perspective of executives ” perform. However, this is still being reviewed and will be published soon. I would therefore like to publish some of the results in advance in a summarized form. What is digital leadership In the study mentioned, Tobias Greff (AWS Institute for Digital…
Digitization is on everyone’s lips and does one thing above all: It produces many collective terms or also called buzzwords. These often have one thing in common, namely the ending 4.0. I have been asked a lot lately what this 4.0 actually means and whether there is also a 3.0, because I also use many terms in the blog with the ending 4.0 in the blog, such as Work 4.0 Consulting 4.0 Leadership 4.0 Industry 4.0 Medium-sized companies 4.0 I have explained all of these terms individually and do not want to go into any further detail. However, I would like to take a closer look at the ending 4.0 and provide an attempt to explain it. What does 4.0 mean – an attempt to explain The viernull-Magazin.de says: “Web 2.0” seems to be the mother of all “x.0 combinations”. This is especially true for trends that have to do…
As part of my doctoral thesis at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, I am conducting a survey about the competencies and skills a digital leader should have in the modern age. Anyone who exercises disciplinary leadership or professional leadership (assignment of tasks: project manager, senior consultant, agile coach, scrum master, etc.) is allowed to participate. I would be happy if you would help me and fill out the 10 minute survey! The survey is over! [Survey ended ] Definition of digital leadership Digital leadership can therefore be viewed as a leadership behavior, how corporate leaders and top executives think and act in order to master the challenges in the digital age. According to this, digital change is not just technology, software or organizational change, but charismatic and transformational leadership that fills the routines of technical and bureaucratic management with life, which is conveyed by visionary leaders. This leadership behavior begins with the…
tolia[fotolia]For many years everything was very clear with regard to generation management: We have a Generation X who works diligently and loyally for us and a Generation Y who is looking for meaning and self-fulfillment. The consequences can now be clearly seen: companies are increasingly turning into luxury hotels with relaxation rooms, open spaces and, in some cases, fully equipped fitness studios. But now there is another generation that is pushing its way into the labor market: Generation Z. The result is hybrid teams from three generations that present managers with tough challenges. After a short introduction, I would like to give differentiated recommendations for the management of the three generations. Generation X If you look at that Portal Absolventa, one finds the following definition: For the so-called Generation X this is professional advancement the most important goal when looking for a job. At least that is what the study…
The Chief Digital Officer (CDO), a new management position, is increasingly being created to plan and implement the digital transformation in companies. In view of this development, the question arises whether the Chief Information Officer (CIO) cannot also be responsible for the digital transformation in organizations (Source: Walchshofer and Riedl). But what does a Chief Digital Officer do? Tasks of the CDO In their study, Walchshofer and Riedl examined the various tasks of the CDO on the basis of job advertisements. So both state: The CDO is responsible for developing the digital strategy responsible. This strategy is derived from the corporate strategy and should be implemented by the CDO and anchored in the company. Farther he is responsible for controlling and checking the change. It should develop and derive new business models and check them for feasibility. The central task of the CDO is also to create efficient structures. By…
