Cloud computing is no longer just a future trend, but has long since found its way into many companies. The advantage of cloud computing has been recognized, especially in SMEs. Companies no longer have to set up hardware and software themselves, but can instead use the services of the cloud. This often results not only in more security, but also in cost savings and increased efficiency.

Cloud computing differs through three service models that are linked to one another: IAAS , SAAS and PAAS .

What is cloud computing?

However, before this article goes into the three different service models of cloud computing, it should first be clarified what the generic term is all about.

Cloud computing describes the outsourcing of data, information, systems and applications to a cloud. This in turn makes use available at any time and from anywhere with the help of the appropriate IT resources. The cloud uses a special network for this. One such is the Internet, for example, so that installations on local computers are no longer necessary for the user. Cloud computing also offers additional flexibility through use via interfaces, protocols or a web browser.

Three different service models

The three different service models IAAS, SAAS and PAAS are superimposed layers that relate to the architecture of the three pillars of infrastructure, platform and software. You can already see that in advertising. It can also be worthwhile Create a banner allow.

IAAS

The abbreviation IAAS stands for I. nfrastructure A. s AS service . It describes a cloud service in which the user has access to IT tools, such as servers, storage and network components, via a provider. Companies can use their own applications, systems and platforms within the infrastructure. This also has the advantage that the user does not incur any costs for purchasing hardware. Instead, it is only billed as required. In addition, there is no need for expensive maintenance costs for in-house hardware. But IAAS also offers many advantages in other aspects. This results in massive time savings, as administrative tasks can now be carried out virtually and it is no longer time-consuming and manual.

In addition, the IAAS cloud service also provides greater security. On the one hand, thanks to the cloud, the data is no longer at risk of a single point of failure. On the other hand, you get a much better scalability available. This makes it possible to adapt the infrastructure individually to your own storage and processing requirements.

SAAS

The short term SAAS stands for S. oftware A. s AS service . It describes the second pillar of cloud computing services. This is the authorization to access a provider’s software in the cloud. Accordingly, users of SAAS do not have to install their own applications locally and can instead use the services offered by the cloud network. This can be done via the web or an API.

Anytime access from anywhere also enables project teams to work together on a project online. The software is made available in the form of a subscription model. As a result, it does not entail any further requirements such as independent administration, installation or upgrading by the user, as these tasks are taken over by the provider himself.

The user can customize the IT resources provided. In addition, SAAS offers a high level of security, as there is practically no data loss, not even due to a device failure.

PAAS

P latform A. s AS service is through PAAS abbreviated. This is an offer within the cloud that provides the user with a cloud environment for the development, management and provision of applications. In addition, PAAS offers a large amount of storage space and the necessary IT resources. But also predefined, helpful tools for testing, developing and hosting applications and systems can be done via PAAS.

The cloud service offers companies the advantage that they can concentrate fully on their actual work, the development of applications. Additional requirements, such as your own construction of a suitable infrastructure, are no longer necessary, as these are now provided in the cloud via PAAS. However, other tasks such as security requirements, the management of the operating systems and the software for the server are carried out exclusively by the provider.

Due to the possibility of worldwide access at any time, virtual teams in particular, with members at different local locations, can benefit enormously from PAAS.
